The Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations have ended, and whilst many Malaysians are still on vacation, some are actually on ‘forced‘ unpaid-leave for two weeks. For the rest, they are facing uncertainties in their once-upon-a-time secured jobs, which are hanging on a thin thread.
The Year of the Ox wasn’t too well received, unlike previous celebrations the Ox was quietly (and reluctantly) ushered in without the usual big-bang fire-crackers as they know too well that big brother ‘Bull‘ scooted off from Wall St., and this Ox came in in a state of disparity.
Compared to a month ago, I was surprised to find that many many more Malaysians have awakened to the reality of the financial madness and the possibility of becoming impoverished is too damned real, and that “Malaysia-Boleh” jadi teruk. The gloom faces throughout the festivity reflect the End of Prosperity for many many years to come.
Whilst Malaysians were celebrating CNY, protests and riots were spreading out to many European cities. The latest breakout is in France, after Spain, Iceland and the Balkan states.
Some analysts have viewed the current happenings in Europe as a pre-cursor to a revolution akin to the French Revolution some 220 years ago.
“We are witnessing the collapse of an entire system of ideas.” said Mr. Guy Ryder, the general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) at the World Economic Confrence in Davos yesterday. Civil unrest is in the making not just in USA, but throughout the EU. The outlook for 2009 is grim indeed. The European Protest movement has begun and soon these ills will spread to the rest of Asia…God forbids.
Sharan Burrow, the president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions, said that the world was now witnessing the human cost of “casino capitalism” as the impacts of rising unemployment and home repossessions and of plunges in savings and pension funds hit millions of families.
Ms Burrow said: “Why shouldn’t working people be angry? Their money is being used to stabilise the financial system, but it is their wealth, their jobs and the welfare of their children that is being stripped away.”
As I see it…its the end of prosperity for all of us, except for a few treacherous God-damned bankers. (Yes, I’m angry too!)
“This hatred will be still further magnified by the effects of an ECONOMIC CRISIS, which will stop dealings on the exchanges and bring industry to a standstill. We shall create by all the secret subterranean methods open to us and with the aid of gold, which is all in our hands, A UNIVERSAL ECONOMIC CRISIS WHEREBY WE SHALL THROW UPON THE STREETS WHOLE MOBS OF WORKERS SIMULTANEOUSLY IN ALL THE COUNTRIES OF EUROPE. These mobs will rush delightedly to shed the blood of those whom, in the simplicity of their ignorance, they have envied from their cradles, and whose property they will then be able to loot.”
