“Nothing’s free!“…haven’t we heard that before? What does it really mean? I’ve been told another way – “There’s a price for everything!“. Have you heard that before? Do they mean the same?
As I see it…well, they are, and that’s what I call “language dynamics“. An example – “Say what you mean, mean what you say” I’d say!
This is a great way to fool, influence, and convince people for any purpose thinkable. Ask any lawyer, politician, priest (any religion), or even a doctor (nowadays).
Take the ever popular word ‘freedom‘. It’s found and embedded in every ‘sovereign’ nation’s constitution. Countries go to war in its name, and revolutions arise for it, or because of it.
Now, ain’t that a powerful word.
In “civilised” societies, lawyers are being engaged when anyone’s ‘personal liberty (another name for freedom)’ is at stake…for a fee you’d (not would, but COULD) be set free.
See…there’s even a price for freedom, AND “you can buy it back” if you lose it! So don’t worry too much about it, its always available (but not for free). So don’t spend all your salary on those yummy tech gadgets, especially if you blog.
Now that we think and feel we’re “free“, shall we kill people we don’t quite like? Let me put it this way, that’s call ‘murder’ with a capital ‘M’ if you didn’t know, and BTW, suicide is a crime! 😉
Now, in the IT world, you’d find the word ‘Shareware’ and ‘Freeware’ and then there’s “opensource”.
If you’re a ‘software’ freak, then you’d probably know EXACTLY what those mean. For the rest of you, huh…don’t be too taken with the word ‘free’, stay with – “opensource” e.g. the awesome FIREFOX.
Tell you the truth, I’m begining to go crazy everytime I type F R E E . . . , but I’m running a blog here, and you know, bloggers are supposed to say…oh..whatever…
Just linger on this:-
It must be noted that men with bad instincts are more in number than the good, and therefore the best results in governing them are attained by violence and terrorisation, and not by academic discussions. Every man aims at power, everyone would like to become a dictator if only he could, and rare indeed are the men who would not be willing to sacrifice the welfare of all for the sake of securing their own welfare.
What has restrained the beasts of prey who are called men? What has served for their guidance hitherto?
In the beginnings of the structure of society they were subjected to brutal and blind force; afterwards-to Law, which is the same force, only disguised. I draw the conclusion that by the law of nature right lies in force.
Political freedom is an idea but not a fact. This idea one must know how to apply whenever it appears necessary with this bait of an idea to attract the masses of the people to one’s party for the purpose of crushing another who is in authority. This task is rendered easier if the opponent has himself been infected with the idea of freedom, SO-CALLED LIBERALISM, and, for the sake of an idea, is willing to yield some of his power. It is precisely here that the triumph of our theory appears: the slackened reins of government are immediately, by the law of life, caught up and gathered together by a new hand, because the blind might of the nation cannot for one single day exist without guidance, and the new author merely fits into the place of the old already weakened by liberalism. (Protocol 1. The Jewish Prorocols)
If you think the above are mere words, well…they say “A picture paints a thousand words” I would say, “A song sings a thousand pictures”
“Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to loose
Nothing, I mean nothing honey if it ain’t free, no no
Yeah feeling good was easy Lord when he sang the blues
You know feeling good was good enough for me
Good enough for me and my Bobby McGee.”
From the song – Me And Bobby McGee
Sung by the awesome and beautiful Janis Joplin.
